anyone have dimensions for a 99 epic 21 for a wake tower?
« on: November 08, 2005, 05:20:29 am »
i am looking to get a wake tower and i was wondering if anyone has dimensions for mounting a wake tower?  i have a 99 epic 21.  i assume most towers all mount the same and i assume there are many people that have mounted them.  the reason i cant do mine is that it is already in storage.  any help would be great

thanks

Well, you can buy a factory fit tower from Toyota, definitely the best engineered tower for that boat. It's a bit expensive, but it folds down and fits under the factory cover for a tower boat. OR, you can call new dimension towers, I think its www.newdimensiontowers.com and they can make a custom one for you that fits a 99 E21 and looks awesome. See Ramblin Wrecks posts (search) for pics, they are in the Pics section too. It is by far the most righteous aftermarket tower for any boat, IMHO. Prolly not cheap either.

i have a chance of buying a new tower but i need to know if it will fit.  if anyone is willing to help me get these measurements off their epic 21 i would be willing to pay them a small fee.  just an incentive.  thanks

I am happy to help if you can wait until Thanksgiving weekend. That is the next time I will be at the lake.
Don't be so humble, you're not that great.

The tower measures

87" in the front

90.25" in the rear

43" front to back spread

so i might just be out of luck

Run away from that tower. If the '2 days' isn't a big enough red light...

If you want to go cheap really bad, then go for Monster Tower. Not that it's cheap, it's really a great tower, it's just not on the same par as the TOYOTA towers.

In plain english, if you don't want to buy OEM, then get a New Dimension tower (probably reasonably close in price, not sure), but if you want to take the value approach, go Monster.

And get a calendar.

so the wakeair is a bad tower?  it retails for 2400 just that this is a used/demo.  i was just trying to get a little help.  Does toyota still make towers?  do i have to just go through a toyota marine dealer?  even still if anyone has the dimentions it would be helpful.  thanks again

I haven't swung on a wakeair, but the feedback that Monster gets is just so good. If it were me, I'd much prefer a new Monster than any of the towers I saw on that site.

Any of the East Coast Epic Roundup guys should be able to comment, as they've seen the Wreck's 21 with New Dimension, Les' S22 with Monster, and Pete's E22 with TOYOTA tower. Mine's all speculation.

does the epic 21 have reinforced mounting points?  will it take a tower or does it have to be mounted in a specific area?

You could probably get a Toyota one cheaper than that, and you could get a New Dimension way cheaper than that I'd bet. Toyota still has them in stock, look at the parts page. The fiberglass is reinforced with aluminum plates in 00 and later boats, but you can buy the reinforcement plates separately if you don't already have them. See the fabulous parts page for all you need. You'll have to order through a dealer but you could install yourself, right Derek?

i guess spending $2800 for a tower is a little extreme.  i guess i will look into this wakeair one.  i know you get what you pay for.  and i would love the toyota but i want black and the new dimension is a little pricey when you include shipping.  thanks for all the input

Just because Moster towers aren't $2,800 doesn't mean they're cheap. OK, so maybay I wanted to save like $1,800 and stray from the factory tower. My Monster is rock solid and have not had any gelcoat hairline fractures i often hear about. I think the MOnster towers look great on our boats, especially with the matching bimini (Sunbrella, not cheap, but monster made these cool brackets to fit on the tower) It'd look even better with some racks if I wasn't so ......well, cheap.

If I had a wad of cash layin around, I'd have gone with the factory tower.

The 512,000 people on Wakeworld rave about Monster tower. To get that kind of following, you've got to have more than good photo girls.

I dunno about that last statement. Millions of internet pornographers would disagree.

I am a big fan of Monster towers but I would not put one on a boat. If I only had 1k to spend I would probably wait and save up more. I have personally seen Monster towers fail in two different ways, one time when my boat smacked against another boat that I was tied up to,  it popped the Heim joint apart on the bottom where it mounts to the boat, rear mount. Another time, while towing, but not from the tower, my pals tower leg weld broke at the top, where it connects to the hinge on the horizontal part. The leg fell backwards and smacked the boat, lucky it didn't hit someone. Monster was totally cool about it and shipped out a new tower piece the next day. The towers require tightening every time out, and move around to much for my comfort level with boards and speakers on the tower. I have a lot of crap on my tower and I'm putting more stuff on there this winter:)

Not dissing Monster, they are definitely the best deal for the money and a totally stand up company. I just want something NOT universal and a bit stronger for my boat, and I'm willing to pay more than double for it.

If you want a black Toyota E21 tower, buy one. They came in black. OR, call some of the dealers that have new ones sitting around, (phill dill, ski masters) and work a deal for a dinged up one, white or whatever. Chances are they are all going to have paint chips, scratches. My new one did after shipping. Beat them up on price, get it cheap, then get it re-powdercoated for 200$ in frigging hot pink if you want. Just my .02;)
