Wreck- Unfortunately I share the same impulsive lust for autos. In fact, is the 247 is actually the boat I think it is and I can't get enough of it at the boat show tomorow, I will be selling my 911 to pay for BU. I have literally gone through dozens of cars in the last 10 years or so. My oldest daughter turns 16 this fall, so I get to car shop for her, cuz she ain't driving my car, so there's another thing to look forward to. I am a lot more relaxed with boats. My S22 is only my 3rd. I started with a 175 Chaparral, the the Moomba Kamberra, now the S22. So if I sell the Epic this spring, it is a pattern, not an indicator of anything wrong with the boat.
As far as the depreciation goes, I am guestimating. I looked at a couple of 2005 BU Sunsetter 25's that had to have bee close to 70k new (??) that are now on boat trader in the mid-high 50's. With the 247 being a new model and such a shizzle item, maybe it'd hold on better. I know the dealers think so, or at least want us to think so. I also think if you are going to hold on to it for a while (which would require a new pattern of impulse for me) than new is ok. I called on a used 23 in Dallas and although the seller asured me it was a perfect boat, the 400+ hours on a 2004 with his declaration that it was a great party boat sort of turned me off. It' sprobably got vomit and semen ingrained in the vinyl. Maybe not, but who knows.
Plus my core belief in buying auto/boat is this- if your gonna buy American, buy new, because if it has been abused at atll, the great American iron doesn't tolerate abuse nearly as well as foreign. I get sort of anal about running high RPM's (Bitzco has to wait for me in the SX everywhere we go), engine care, maintenance etc. So I think with a Malibu and it's Chevy heartbeat, I'm leaning towards new.
