Serpentine Belt
« on: April 11, 2006, 22:29:44 pm »
I have been reading a lost of posts as I am going to the lake this week to unwinterize the boat and was checking part #s, etc.

There seems to be variation on the intervals to change several items (plugs, impeller, etc.) but I cannot find an opinion as to the serpentine belt. Is this an "inspect and replace as necessary" item or do any of you replace it on a scheduled basis?

I replaced mine last fall-'05.  I don't know the rec. interval, but I can tell you that after 240 hrs, the old one was indistinguishable from the new one.  I changed it anyways, but Bret'll get the old one included in my bag'o'parts...just in case.

Wreck, check the official TMS maintenance Guide in the maintenance section. Says check the serp belt every year and replace if cracked. I often forget there's a ton of good stuff in the maintenance section.

Here's link to it for ur convenience:

I'm coming up lake hartwell way next weekend(week after Easter) to stay at my buds around the corner from you. Let me know if you want to hook up.

Thanks Les, I downloaded it yesterday but forgot to open and review it. Between that and Festivus' post, I gues it is a "replace as needed" item. I looked it over last Fall and it seemed fine but the boat is coming up on its 8th year (sumer 1998). Not knowing if the belt has ever been replaced, I was just curious if some replace it at X years regardless of condition.

I forgot - I am heading to the lake today and plan to go back next week for a few days also. The weekends are iffy between now and the end of school year due to the wrap up of all of the kid's activities. My wife believes in the "need to know" theory so I am only told what is happening a few days in advance! When I find out whether I will stay over the weekend, I will give a shout. It would be great to hook up if possible.
