Anyone Raised Their Driver's Seat?
« on: April 18, 2006, 23:36:23 pm »
I'm used to a center console bay boat where I either sit high on an ice chest or stand up. The seat on the E22 seems low, and there is no flip up bolster like a lot of the new boats have. Has anyone raised their seat or installed a seat with a flip-up bolster? I'd like to be able to see over the teenagers riding in the bow.

I figure it this way - if the Toyota gods had wanted you to see out of the front of the boat with people up there or when you aren't on plane yet, they would have built a higher seat. As it is, I think they just want you to use faith while you drive. Just believe and you won't hit anything. That is unless Fest and his crew slow down ahead of you and you almost run them all over. That's what I did. I am weak and was particularly faithless that day. Scared the crap out of Fest and company. Oh yeah, and me too. Fest was kind and forgiving as usual. He just encouraged more blind faith. Also, the Toyota gods put warning stickers on everything in the boat that isn't even remotely dangerous. If seeing was important, I'm sure they would have pasted a big orange sticker on the steering wheel or dash or windshield saying so. No warning sticker = no need to see. Just sit down, relax, and push the throttle forward.

This was one on my winter projects.

I placed 3/4" shims between the base and the adjustable chair runners.  The trick is to remove the driver's seat cushion which allows you to remove the seat and access the bolts that hold the seat onto the base.

I used some composite fiberglass material for the shims that is super strong and water resistant.

I'll take a picture to show what I did.

During a an endless tube session last week when I was unable to see over my 14 year-old daugher in the bow, I did manage to read most of the warning stickers below the observer's seat. Nice to know they will be available from Toyota for years to come unless any succomb to the elements.

We lived there from 1986 until 1997. We lived in Aurora until 1990 and then moved to the Pinery. It sure looks different now than when we left.
