Maybe another lame question...
« on: August 21, 2003, 23:33:57 pm »

What impact (legal, not boat handling and gas mileage) does operating your towboat above rated capacity have?

1) Tickets?

2) Lack of insurance coverage?

S22's rated at 10 persons or 1400 pounds, but fine print says 10 persons means 1700 pounds. Assuming this means that at 1700 pounds, the boat is rated for handling all the way to wide open throttle. Do we get around the technicality by explaining we're not operating the boat throughout its full operating range with full bags? Does the Coast Gaurd buy that?

There has been a lot of discussion on this topic on Wakeworld, it varies by state. Some jurisdictions will write tickets, some don't care. Technically, the boat is overloaded. Epics drive very well for weighted boats, one of the best according to Travis Moye, who is the wakeboarding driver for the Pro Tour. He worked for Toyota at the time, but I would like to think that his opinion was objective!
