Just find a good inboard dealer and give them Rick Cohn's address for help if it's the dash computer.

Make sure to specify synthetic engine oil.

Welcome to the site, and before you go drop a couple hundies at the dealer, poke around the maintenance docs and threads. Scheduled maintenance in these babies are super easy to DIY, and the speedo issues are well covered in the forums.

How 'bout this: go spend $75 for Mobil1 oil and ATF and an impeller & $50 on an Oil Boy fluid sucker. With all the money you'll save in the not-too-long run, you can afford to spend a grand on Perfect Pass to fix the speedo problem FOREVER.

Simple enough for me to say (still don't have PP).

That's funny since their location in Lodi CA is selling one

http://west.marinemax.com/inventory_detail.asp?formname=new&from=search&currdiid=454088&tab=&site_type=dealertemplate&navigate=true&searchtype=A&isIFRAME=false&reqStyle=&Site_cid=&Lead_source=&isPreview=&isAdmin=

I would take it to a place that sells skiboats and see what you get there.

Is there a Malibu or Mastercraft dealer in your area?

A smaller operation may treat you better.  I would buy a pump and do the oil change myself, it's not too bad and not too messy.

For the gauges you may want to target the Malibu dealers, word on this forum is they have similar issues that we have.

Thanks for the help guys.  I am pretty handy and have always changed my own oil, just never in a boat.  What is this oil sucking business?  I will buy tools needed and change the oil myself in a heartbeat if you guys show me how.  I looked around the maintenance section and can't yet find precise instructions on how to change the oil.  Also, I noticed manual says synthetic but this boat has 135 hours on it.  Is it time for synthetic?

You don't have to suck oil on the direct drives (can't speak for V?). There is a hose that will drain that oil and s/b clipped to the top of your engine. Just run the hope out through the forward drain and open it up.

yeah, I found the hose.  Oil is drained, filter changed.  So......Should I follow manual and go with normal 5w30 or go for synthetic Mobil 1...boat has 135 hours???

Prevailing advice seems to be to use conventional oil for the first 200 hours to let the rings seat properly.
Don't be so humble, you're not that great.

You don't need to do the "sucking business" but I prefer it, especially if I am doing it on the boat lift mid-season.  You can get a hand pump or a electric 12v one they both work great for oil changes and trans fluid changes.  They pretty much pay for themselves the first time you don't have a dealer do it.  I got my 12v one for $25.  The hose is handy if you have a Direct Drive and it is sitting in your driveway, when it is sitting over water I wouldn't even think of trying to use the hose through the hull.

Ditto on the conventional oil until you have more hours.

Can someone tell me how much tranny fluid to add?  I sucked it out with a syphon and ended up with about 3.25 quarts.....I dont see a fill line in the reservoir.  Awesome help so far.

Thanks Guys.

I sucked about that amount of my Direct Drive and put in the same 3.2-3.3 quarts.  On the opposite side of the trans there is a trans plug/stick that has a level marker on it.  There isn't a way to check (that I know of) from the bigger hole with the metal filter.  I doubt you burned much (if any) trans fluid anyway.  I don't think it is possible to get it all out either.

Have you gotten the trans fill cap back on?  If it is a pain don't fret, search here before you bust up your fingers.

Thanks for the help. I am going to add 3.2 Quarts and check level once Im at the lake next time. Hopefully not too much. Direct Drive here too. Do you know what kind of filter to put in the tranny?  I went with the numbers given in the maintenace guide (MTR0010937) to the local marine shop and they had no clue.  Do you know what brand of tranny fluid filter to ask for?

Per Cyclone, it's a mesh filter and you can just rinse it and re-use. That's what I did this year.
