Need help outfitting my son
« on: August 25, 2003, 19:43:54 pm »
Wrong forum, maybe, but hope you can help.

Brandon's turning 6 in November. Yesterday he got up on a slalom a half-dozen times, the longest ride being like 10 seconds. Water was real rough. Nevertheless, he's got skills for his age, ya know? Now we've got to start preparing for the X-games (:-)

The field for little wakeboards is bigger than I thought. Here's a few:

1. CWB Worm (124)
2. Double Up Grommet (125)
3. Hyperlite Motive (119)
4. Liquid Force Squirt and Squirt Micro (122)

Do you guys have any recommendations?

How 'bout for bindings? I'd assume that the non-adjustable bindings would be good because of their simplicity.

Last but not least, have any of you checked out the instructional videos out there (like Detention)? Any good?

Thanks!!!!!

We are just getting back from WWA Nationals and Cale took 4th in Jr. Boys, he is 10.  He is a little disappointed not getting on the podium, but he did get the invite to Worlds.
Anyway... if Cale was just starting at that age I would go Motive.  It is the smallest and easiest to ride.  He can move on the bigger and harder boards later.  As for bindings you will be buying several, we just bought Cale his third pair.  I think the key with them is get a pair that he can put on and take off by himself, or, close.
We are huge fans of the DVD "Higher Education".  We know the guys at the wakeboard camp and Charlie Patterson.  Although we have other DVD's this one is the best

Thanks for the help and very cool about your grom.

I'll look around for the Motive. The micro Squirt's on sale everywhere; might take some digging to find a deal on the Motive.

We got some on-sale CWB Grip bindings and I'm pretty happy with them. Wish they made 'em in a micro size. Youth One to be exact. The cool thing about those types are that you get them dialed in and then don't have to adjust anything.

Higher Education looks cool since it starts at ground zero and moves up from there.

The Squirt is just fine.  It's only slightly bigger and almost the same easy shape.  The reason I say go small is so he can turn it over in the water.  And if he can't get in and out of the bindings; it cuts down on the fun factor.  And right now that's all that matters... for us too.
