Overheating?
« on: July 26, 2006, 17:42:26 pm »
I changed the impeller a few days ago to solve an overheating issue. It appeared to be better, but when I run above 3500 rpm for a few minutes the temp shoots up to 210. If I run slow again it goes back to 170-180 in under 60 seconds. Also my oil pressure at idle drops into the teens and the alarm goes off. At speed the needle is pegged at 80psi. I had my oil changed at Ski Masters in Seattle this spring. I checked the dipstick yesterday and it reads about 1/2" above full? Is that trouble? What is the range for temp and oil pressure, and should it fluctuate like that? The boat is running smooth and powerful, if the alarms weren't going off, I wouldn't think I had a problem. Your advice would be appreciated.

Jason

There's a ton of info on this in the forum. search "overheat" for more.

Determine wheather it is a gauge problem or an overheating problem. Per capt rick, you should be able to touch the manifold at running temp. If it';s too hot to touch, it's an overheating proble.

If gauge says 210 and you can still touch the manifold, it's a guage problem.

Mine was a guage problem and running a ground from battery to termianl under the dash fixed it. My problem was similar except it VERY rarly reach 210.
