OK...looking for advice...wwyd??
« on: December 28, 2006, 02:40:51 am »
Kind of strange situation.  Back in Sep 06 I bought "malo8899's" 01' Epic X-22.  The whole transaction went pretty smooth overall.  The boat is as nice, if not nicer, than he described.  He finally got me the title in the mail so I could get the boat registered in my name.  He hasn't however provided to me the registration to the trailer.  I've called him numerous times to try to resolve the problem.  A couple months back he said he didn't have the reg. for the trailer.  I called the florida DMV and gave them the serial number and they said it is currently registered to him.  They also said all he would need to do is go to the County Tax Office and they would be able to supply him with a new copy.  I mentioned this to him about 1.5 mos ago.  Since then he has not returned any of my calls in regards to this situation.  My DMV said that I will not be able to register the trailer in my name until I have the signed registration.  It's kind of like the never ending transaction on my end (3+ mos now!!).  malo8899 was a nice guy but I kind of need him to finish his end of the deal... Again, what would you do??

Be nice bur write him a registered letter saying you'll take him to small claims for xxxx.xx dollars (value of trailer) if he doesn't help you obtain paperwork showig his ownership and right to sell it to you. .

He also owns the trailer, in which case he could go to where you live and pick up his trailer with your boat on it legally. My buddy is a repo man, and plenty of times people buy a new trailer, and he can't touch it because it not the same serial #(the bank doesn't own that one).So the bank owns the boat but not the trailer. It seems like I would be knocking on doors in Fla.with a couple of buddies until I found him

I just realized he has a "myspace" site, and it appears that he logs on frequently.  I think I will drop him a line and see if he will respond that way.  I would like to keep it at a friendly level but if he doesn't get back to me soon I may have to start looking into small claims I guess.  I don't think I have to worry about him taking my trailer, he was a pretty nice guy.  Besides, I keep it locked indoors,  and I have a lot of guns!  Thanks for the advice.

Whats happening flyn?
I have an idea that people I know may or may not have done in similar situations.  Last ditch, if you HAVE to kind of thing.

You didn't hear this from me buuuuuut..... in Texas you can just go down to the Registration office and tell them you have a 'homemade' trailer that you want to register.  And Later if the old serial number goes missing off the trailer there is absolutely NO recourse for anyone to claim that you didn't actually build the trailer.

I know for a fact that this works in texas.  I had a trailer stolen and they still have it even though I and the cops know where it went.

Again, only if you HAVE to.

That would be sweet, you could call it a TRD trailer, and put all your TRD emblems all over it!  Might even be able to put some Hawaiin pineapple stickers on there as well.  Let me know if you need to borrow an industrial size file, I know an Aggie that keeps those kind of tools laying around!  It would be nice to have everything standard for re-sale purposes, but nice to know you have some options if it comes to it.

So this thread is now magically transformed into the ask all be all thread of universal advice. I'm hijacking it as is my prerogative just like bobby beat whitney since I'm site admin. Nyahh. Post whatever you want in this endless thread of uselessness...............

First thought. That Malo guy was a creep, called me and a couple of other epic owners and pestered us to sell our boats, set up deals for me to buy a boat elsewhere, yada yada. Stirs up crap between people pricewise, several boats on the site for sale at the same time. Then, he buys a nice one, probably low balls the poor guy and gets it cheap, then sells it a month later, hopefully CHEAPER to someone who can appreciate it. I don't get that, but I'm glad that the boat is in good Flyin hands. It looked like a peach, in perfect shape .These boats stay that way, I'm about to take possesion of a survivor, Terry, aka HiFlyin (no relation, haha!) just sold me his dead mint 2001 SX Gravity Games boat. Goin out to Seattle to wrap it up and send it on down my way WOHOO>

Thanks for all the responses....even yours Ktown (hawaiian hater!).  Kirk_tx, that is some HUGE info as my safety net.  I think I may end up calling the Florida DMV again and letting them know what is going on to find out if I have any other options.  If this doesn't work, I guess I will need to start looking for legal advice.....break.....Cyclone, that is going to be a sick SX!!!  I'm sure you will get many years of enjoyment out of it.  I know Ktown loves his...even though it has a scuba tank for a sub-woofer :)    Kirk, whats the status of the boat??  Get that new prop on yet?  Until next time......Happy new year!

Cyclone,

Sorry, I often forget that nobody else has seen Flyn's obsession with TRD emblems and aftermarket products.  Mostly just a fun jab at him, but I will save those comments for drinking a cold one at the bar (since it is too cold for the lake).

KTOWN,
No, it's absolutely fine. Derek (gr8dna, toyotafreak, et al) has a similar obsession with Toyota!

Hey flyin

The busted prop is actually still on the boat.  Its a long story but to shorten it.  I ordered a puller and a prop in Nov.  They sent the wrong prop. Called em. They said they are sending another one. Week and half later, no propr.  Call them again. They apologized said they are sending it.  Called again a month later. "Sorry its backordered"  They are always really helpful when I call and I think they are really trying to do the right thing.  I think they are just super disorganized.  Moral of the story:  Be careful when buying from the cheapest folks on the internet.

F-me.  Oh well at least it isn't july when this is happening.

Oh and the coolest thing about getting tags for a "homemade" trailer you get to make up your own serial number.  i.e. # I L O V E P O I

So I am actively aquiring pieces parts for the new rig. I bought some audio stuff off Ebay. I got two old school but mint Planet Audio amps. They were built by Zed Audio and are US made and super badass and heavy duty, good for rockin out the Lynyrd Skynyrd and sheot. Both amps are the same size and put out a true 600 watts RMS. One is four channel (boat) and the other is two channel (tower). I have a sub amp coming as well.

If I'm not mistaken, most State DMV's have a "lost title" process.  Usually an affidavit stating the title has been lost...

You may want to ask the Florida and Texas DMV's about this for your trailer.

Good luck!

Thanks again for all of the responses.  Nice one kirk_tx (poi) haha.  Anyhow, I have asked about the lost title processes from the DMV's, they mostly sound like it has to be filled out by the current registered owner, and then they will send it to the address on file with the registered owner (i.e. the dude who is not answering any of my calls, emails, letters, screams).  I don't know exactly why the guy doesn't just call me back.  It's just the registration to the trailer you know?  He probably has the "f@#% it cause it's not mine anymore" feeling.  I think a small claims court order might re-light that "f@#%, i better get this s@#% finished feeling" though !!!  Again, thanks for the advice.  Cyclone, i wish you could hear the stereo in my boat now!  I just finished some of my last mods this week.  (I have a kicker solobaric 12 in a ported box, with a diamond audio amp (600w).  I just installed a 2.4 CAP and yellow top optima.  I've also got 4 boston acoustics on the tower powered by a kenwood amp, and kenwood speakers in the walls (powered off of the deck). I would like to send a little more power to those when I get some more time to work on it.  anyhow, take'r easy.
