2001 Toyota Epic X22 for sale in Washington State
« on: December 30, 2007, 06:48:38 am »
It is with great pain that I type this up, but...

If you are looking to buy the one of the nicest, fully-loaded, Perfect-Passed, and accessorized direct-drive Toyotas on the market, it just came on to the market.  I bought a new boat today, and it's time my beloved Toyota to go.

The boat is a 2001 Toyota Epic X22 with 584 hours.  No penny has been spared to keep this boat in good condition.  The boat has seen Mobil 1 fluids all its life, and $15 iridium spark plugs since I bought it at 280 hours.  The engine absolutely purrs.  I am the second owner who has always relied on this forum and SkiMasters (Seattle Watersports) for support.  I have long considered myself the unofficial president of the Pete K. (Cyclone) international fan club, and have followed his advice and maintenance documents religiously. The first owner was an engineer who worked for Toyota Racing Development in California (TRD) -- so between the two of us, this boat has been well cared for over its entire 6-year life.

This boat has every option and upgrade imaginable.

OPTIONS & UPGRADES:
- Custom-fitted Ryan Tandem axle trailer with brakes on both axles (much heavier-duty than the Ameratrail trailer these came with)
- Perfect Pass cruise control system (very rare on this boat, a $1400 upgrade that is worth its weight in gold -- Perfect Pass is a speed regulating system that automatically adjusts the speed of the boat to the rider's individual setting.  It makes driving for a wakeboarder or skiier so easy that anybody can do it, and many marriages have been saved because of it)
- Custom 850-lb. Fly High rear ballast upgrade
- bimini top
- Tower-mount mirror arm
- (3) wakeboard racks that hold two boards each
- (1) waterski rack that holds two skis
- Black powder-coated tower (very rare, most are aluminum or white)
- Black rub rail (the x22's came with a white rub rail from the factory)
- Removable jump-seat (mounts in the windshield walkway and is very nice, installs and removes in seconds)
- (6) Infinity Kappa marine speakers
- Custom speaker pods to allow for 4-speakers in the cockpit and 2-speakers in the bow for 6 total
- Sony Xplod 240 watt amplifier powers the 6 Infinity speakers
- Step insert added underneath middle back-seat (to protect the vinyl seats from feet)
- Three-outlet heater (one at driver's face, one at driver's feet, one is a hose-type heater outlet)
- Protective clear-bra installed on transom to protect gel-coat from board scratches (very nice feature!!)
- Shower on the stern
- Snap-down bow cover
- Snap-down swimstep cover
- Stainless steel cupholders

EXTRAS:
(3) Boat Covers:
     - Rankin custom towing and mooring cover
     - Toyota factory cover -- TOWER UP
     - Toyota factory cover -- TOWER DOWN
3 propellers:
     (2) 4-blade 13x13 wakeboard props
     (1) 3-blade ski prop

Plus many, many more extras including the original Bose tower-speakers, extra cup-holders, Gravity Games decals, chrome Toyota decals, etc, etc, etc...

If you do the math on the upgrades and extras on this boat, you will easily account for more than $8,000 worth.  No penny was spared.  This boat is priced firmly at $23,000.  At $23k, this boat is one heck of a deal, with all of the right upgrades (did I mention Perfect Pass??).

Pictures will be posted below.  The boat's accessories have changed several times, what you see above is what is on the boat now.

Please PM me if you are interested.  I am confident that the first person to look at this boat WILL buy it.

Thank you,
Cal

A couple in-the-water shots.  In the picture with people in the boat, the upgraded ballast is full.  The other pic is taken at one of my favorite places on earth, Pateros WA.

The upgraded ballast sack when full...  and a picture of the wake with the boat loaded.  Note: this pic is at 23 mph with a 70' line, and I'm 5'8".

Interior shots will come later this week.  But in the meantime, the interior layout and colors are identical to this:

You can really see the quality of the trailer in this picture -- note the quality of the wheel wells, the spare tire underneath, the swing-away tongue and solid-beam construction rather than cavity-back beams (I don't know if that's what they're called...?).  By the way, the reason I have the new trailer is that the previous owner lived near the beach and as a result, there was a lot of salt water in the air.  It corroded the heck out of the trailer.  Two summers ago, I got the boat off-center while loading and damaged the wheel-well.  And since I never liked the quality of the Ameratrail trailer to begin with, I opted to buy a different trailer and sold the Ameratrail for parts.

I bought a 2007 Supra 22SSV.  I have been lusting over the 24's since they came out in '04 or '05, but it's just too big.  I went to a Supra dealership just to look, ended up talking to a salesperson, I low-balled him and they came within $2k of the price.  I was blown away, and had to buy... so it's a brand new closeout '07.  I'll get some pics up here shortly -- I get to take delivery of the boat up in a week or so.  One more week of restless nights...

I'm not leaving the Epic community, just upgrading to a larger boat.  I've loved this boat and seriously am hoping it goes to somebody I know.  My girlfriend and I spent a couple hours today looking through old pictures, paying tribute to the memories.  Sounds like I'm losing a family member or something, but I will miss it.   :(

Wow, Cal. Shamu is for sale. I can personally attest to the immaculate condition and performance of that boat. It drives better now than my '00E22 did new, the throttle is silky. I do not think that a single cheeto has been consumed inside the boat. Cals dog is trained not to get up on the seats. The ballast works flawlessly and the wake is awesome. It is garage kept and wiped down with a soft cotton cloth every fourth day. Wow, I was on that boat on Lake Washingmachine, was there for the trailer swap, and was out on the Columbia at beautiful but nipply cold Vantage! I have a personal attachment to it as well:) I the wake as much or more than my stock SX wake which has a straighter transition. My old boat had about the same weighting, and wake was awesome like Cals boat. The Flyhigh custom sack is really nice, I think it would probably work in any Epic, the dimensions of my Vdrive trunk are very similar.

I know it was time for you to get a bigger boat, and with the options available out there in the market now..... I'm scared to go to the boat show :o Seriously, for you, there's not much incentive for you to "upgrade" to a minimum 7 yr old boat like an SX/S22 when you ride and camp and have a big crew with you. Wakeboard boats have really evolved over the last 7 yrs. I've been eyeballing the Supras for a while, I think they are very innovative and are more rider friendly inside and out, better ballast placement and storage, more useful functional options rather than flashy stuff. I don't like the space age dash on the new MC's, useless BS unneeded expensive bling. I think I was looking at the 22ssv, one of those boats had a huge bow locker. The other Vdrive Supra had a starboard (drivers side) rear seat step/up/cooler thing. I asked if I could get both in the same boat, they said no. It was '06 I think. What'd you get on the new rig? What color? How much ballast? Wakeplate? Stereo? Kick ass Cargo Bimini? 22's on the trailer? ;D It's only money, you'll make more next week:) Can't put a price on fun:) Dealer can, though. good luck selling the boat and make sure you post some pics soon of the new one! Congrats and Happy New Year.
Pete

Dang Pete, are you a mindreader???  Maybe I've just talked about it a lot.   Whichever it is, you nailed it on the head and summed it up perfectly.

I will get pictures of the new boat up here shortly.  It is the Sunsport version, with the walk-through bow and rear steps/cooler on the back seat (I'm actually surprised you asked which version I got -- you know how uptight I am about people stepping on seats!!).  I love that you can walk the entire length of the boat without your feet touching vinyl, while losing very little seating space.  Supra's with just about everything you need, the only significant upgrades I got are the 340hp engine w/catalytic converter, the Z5 cargo rack, 1200 lb. Gravity III ballast system, stainless package, bow-filler cushion, and transom remote.  The coolest feature on the boat is the speed to plane -- they integrated PerfectPass with the "Supra Ride System" (a fancy way of saying trim-tab) so that the trim tab automatically deploys when the boat goes into idle, and stays down until the boat gets onto a plane.  There is NO bow-rise at all.  Amazing... and it's all standard on Supra's in 07 and 08.

Like I said, I'm very attached to my Toyota and this community and promise to not go too far.  And if weddings don't get in the way, you'll see me at the 2nd annual NW Epic round-up.  I wish Supra had a community half as good as this one -- the lack of community with the Supra site is the ONLY compromise I could come up with on this boat.  I guess that's a good thing, as I get to continue to have fun on this site!

Thank you and happy new year to you too.

Oh, forgot to answer a couple questions: the color is black/white, just like my current set-up.  It is a custom gel coat -- The top decks are white, the panel that follows the rub rail is black, the main panel is white, and the hull is solid black.  I'm nervous about the black hull, but we'll see how it goes...  Stock tires/wheels.  I tow too far for 22's, or 20's, or even 16's.  I opted for no stereo other than the cd player be sold with the boat, they made me take the cheap Kenwood speakers.

The boat will have:
Wetsounds Pro 80's on tower
JL 300/2 powering the tower
JL 10" W7 subwoofer
JL 500/1 powering the sub
Wetsounds 6.5" coax speakers
JL A6450 powering the coax speakers

I sure hope you mean it when you say you are not leaving the Epic community. It's good folks like you, and the others that love these boats, that make this a community and make the boat more fun to own. I cringed when Festivus Boo'ed us but it is good having him post on occasion. It will be difficult to stay as close once you become a Supra guy but do your best. Although few of us get to meet in person (the ever growing Great Southeast .... Annual Round Up participants being a noteable exception) it still feels like family around this place. I always look forward to your posts....
Don't be so humble, you're not that great.
