Hello,

I am a new owner of a Toyota Epic with a gauge problem.

My gauges went on the fritz on the first drive after de-winterization( when I was test driving the boat and thought it was a simple short) and I suspect it is the mdc 1600. I am not sure if there is any way to test it. There is water dripping out of one of the fittings for the speedo lines.
I saw your posting a for controllers for sale in February would like to know if you have any for sale or any tips on testing the existing controller.

I have a 99 Epic (SOETA040H899)  with the  7 gauge cluster( one was replaced with the perfect pass stargazer gauge).
The controller has a label with the number 6607-20005-01 J on it. Appears to have been replaced at least once as this one has a 2006 Feb manufacture date on it.

Thanks for your help, Roy

Capt Rick I have a 1999 EPIC 21 (170 hours on it) and am having all kinds of electrical gremlins.  The gas gauge does not work (stuck on full) and the oil press gauge appears to work then goes to 0 intermittently at low idle.  I tested the oil sending unit and the pressure is all good so it looks like a bad gauge or wire issue.  Also after we sit for a while and turn the key over it will do nothing.  I can hear the gauge cluster reset but nothing.  Sometime I can reset the neutral kill buy moving the shift lever and it starts right up but today I had to pull the neg bat cable and then it started right up.  Is this an electrical problem or computer problem.  I am going to have the neg/pos cables replaced in the morning and hope this fixes it but my gut is I have worse issues.  Also the speedos do not work at all.

I will put in my 2 cents worth.
I know it is hard to believe but I had the same basic problem a couple of years ago with the gauges. I had to replace ALL the gauges except the tach/hr meter and 1 speedo. They were all bad. I have never had the starting issue you are having. Make sure the inline fuse located next to the big disconnect (in the small red wire) switch is free of corrosion and seated properly.

Thanks for the feedback.  Now you mention it the inline fuse may be the problem,  I will check when I replace the bar cables. Where did you get the gauges?

Make sure you have the updated fuse in place per the TSB dated 8/2000 for the main boat fuse. You can find it in the maintenance section under technical service bulletins.
