West Coast Epics? (Seattle area)
« on: July 08, 2005, 05:24:42 am »
I'll be travelling to the west coast soon, the weekend of July 22-24 I'll be returning from Victoria, BC, probably via Seattle. Any way that some of us could hook up?

Dammit, Pete... of all the weekends you pick.  I'm going to be in Chicago!!!  Good luck hooking up, I'll make sure terry (highflyin) knows you're around.  You'll have to try and make it this way again sometime...?

Just checked my calendar and am free for a saturday evening ride or any time sunday (mornings are usally the best this time of year). This of course is all dependent on the unpredictable seattle weather.

Terry,
I think I'll be here all weekend, I gotta see what the weeks gonna be like but I can let you know in a day or two when I'll be off. I am in Victoria and have a rental car, can I take a car ferry to Seattle?  How far is that from where you are?

I think there may be a car ferry form victoria to seattle but im not totaly sure. If you have to drive it will take about 4 hrs including the ferry ride to Vancover. it takes a little less then 2 hrs to get form Vancover to Seattle. Best bet would be Sunday morning for clean water.

Pete, you can take the Victoria Clipper and will be there in an hour or two (I don't know, never done it)...it's a really fast 100'+ passenger ferry that goes 50 mph+.  I think it's about $90 or so round trip, though... Victoria is about 75-100 miles away from Seattle, with the Puget Sound in-between.

Terry,
Noticed you have a Tundra. Have you taken it over the mountains (Snoqualmie, Blewett, etc.)? I too am in Seattle and was thinking of borrowing a friends Tundra for my next trip to Priest Lake. Was curious how it towed over the mountains.

I also may be out on Lake Wash Sunday morning, North end near Kenmore....

Thanks, Brit

Brit,

I am in Wenatchee (Lake Entiat) and my Tundra hauls beautifully over Blewett and Snoqualmie. Of course I have only done it a couple times, but, nonetheless no flaws.

I hooked up with HiFLyin (Terry) over the weekend, he took me out on Lake Washington, very nice lake but it got crowded quickly. His boat (01 SX) is very nice and meticulously maintained. His throttle movement is silky smooth, and his boat handles very well with the internal ballasts full. Gobs of power, you can hardly tell that there is weight in the boat.

We went by Bill Gates's pad, not too shabby. I was thinkin' of jumping onto his dock and running inside and surprising him, but Terry reminded me that it wouldn't be wise to taunt the richest man in the world. I have a coupla pix of the place that I'd post except for the fact that he'd probably have guys with raybans and little earpieces hiding in the bushes monitoring me. He may already.

Terry guided me over to SkiMasters, a former Toyota dealer that still has a couple of new Toyotas left. I spoke to Rich, a sales guy, pretty good guy. He took me to see the new SX they have, it is a tiny bit shopworn but is a bonafide new Toyota with new warrantee. They want 40K+ for it, but it is the real deal. It has the later tower, like on the 2002's but I think it is an 01. I forgot to look at the HIN, dammit.
They have quite a few parts sitting around, several new factory towers, other parts. I saw the petcocks on the shelf labeled 9$. I told them that they were welcome to use the classifieds to post boat and part sales, they have some interesting stuff like Toyota Marine Sports director style chairs (pretty beat) and banners and stuff.

Brit,
The Tundra works great. The only thing I worry about when heading over the pass's is the tranny. While I do have a cooler I don't have a guage so I never know how hot it's getting. Due to the coushy ride of the Tundra the tounge weight of our boats will almost put the rear springs to the bump stops which inturn makes the front end a little loose. I just put a pair of air bags in the back to level the truck out when its towing (the boat or anything else) and it makes a world of difference. Don't worry though I did plenty of towing before the air bags and im still here to talk about it. An added bonus to pulling the epic with the Tundra is people think your some sorta Toyota sponsored boarder. Unfortunatly the closes i'v ever come to being sponsered was by me eye doctor who I talked into giving me a free pair of contacts after a little trouble with the front edge of my board.
Taker easy
Terry.
Oh ya Brit, I too was in Kenmoore Sunday morning with the nemero uno epic man CYCLONE. Great guy. H says he will be comming back into town soon. We should all try to get out on the lake when he's back.

Pete- good to meet you man and am looking forward to seeing you again soon. Thanks again for the Cuban.
