Went to Powell with friend's Tige, my SX and Fest's S22. I can't remember the exact numbers in gallons but Fest got the best mileage. Tige man, Fest  and I drove about the same amount one day, and I used about 1/3 less gas than the Tige did. Fest did even better than that. I'm not sure which engine he has in the Tige, but I don't think it is even the biggest gas guzzler in the Tige line. One qualification to this, the Tige was running with the wakeplate, but fest and I did not have ballast filled. Still, most of the driving was wakeplateless, so it may not have made much of a difference. Also, I get much better mileage in the SX with the 3-blade ACME than I did with the 4-blade that was previously on it.

When we boat with out neighbors, we get about twice the mileage of the neighbor with the 24 fooot Chaparral and about the same mileage as the one with the 17 foot inboard, outboard.

Remember that skiing sucks a lot more fuel than wakeboarding, so if you're comparing your with-skiining GPH with someone else's wake-only GPH, it won't be a fair comparison.

That being said...our latest data point was 3.7 engine hours on 13.5 gallons for 3.75 GPH. Three short sets with a new rider, two sets without ballast, three sets with 750, three sets with 1500 and one set skiing. Three adults and a child.

This is pretty consistent with us - 4 GPH is the figure I figure. If we're doing a 30-mile run across Havasu at 30 mph, it'll burn more. If we had more than 2K in the boat, it'd go higher. Worst I've seen wakeboarding was around 6 GPH when we had it loaded to 3K. I'm sure if we were doing a lot of skiing, it would be higher, but man, my body's just not up for that anymore ;-( It's about all I can do to type on this keyboard right now.

They do get good mileage, that's for sure.

I am so impressed by the feedback in this forum. Toyota owners must be a special breed. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the feedback on the gph/mpg for the Toyota's. The data you guys have provided is the best I have heard yet. It is so hard to get real world data out there.
I agree, at 4 or less gph who cares about $3 gas. I burned that amount and even more in my 135 hp 4 cylinder 2004 engine because I had to pitch my prop down so far to get me out of the water.

Epic 21 here I come.....

OK, maybe I'll leave the squirrel for a while. I like it too the more I laugh at it.

I saw early on that you were really into skiing so I thought to myself that you might want to lean toward an E21. However, like most, I could see you also wanted an open bow. It appears you have decided on the E21. You will LOVE it. Breakawaydaze can go over all the tech stuff re: the superiority of this boat for skiing but I will promise you, you will love driving it!! Welcome to the club!!!

Please participate in the Forum. I have only been here for a few months myself but feel like these folks are family.
Don't be so humble, you're not that great.

Thanks Ramblingwreck for the encouragement. I will be looking for the perfect E21 this winter/spring, and yes I am more into skiing than wakeboarding so I am definitely leaning toward the closed bow E21. Although wakeboarding always provides some huge laughs and is great after I am too tired to pull as hard as I can across the wake one more time. :)

I am going to look at some lakefront property this weekend and if I find what I am looking for I am going to get the real ski boat (E21) and live the dream I have been trying to reach since I was about 8 and my parents hooked me up on an old Connelly behind their tri-hull with the OMC V-8.  If things go well I will sell my Runabout and start my search for the E21 (most likely even before it sells) in the next few months.

I will post when I am ready to really go for it and hopefully some of the members can help me track down the boat I am looking for. That one on Ebay at the end of September was awesome Epic 21 with 140 hours, red and white...That is the exact boat I hope to find. There is a post on here about it...I was drooling....I still am...

You should be able to find a pretty nice one in the low to mid teens, that seems to be what they go for these days. Quite a deal, considering. 200 hours means it is ready for the first oil change:)

In the low to mid teens would be great. I only found one recently on the internet, but I am going to be patient and keep looking. In about two-three months I may have to enlist the help of some others on the forum to help me locate the 21 I am after. I have to get some other finances in order in the next couple months, but I will keep you posted.

13.7 hours is hard to believe. That's like 2 fill ups in 5 years! Did they just float around in it?

An S22 with fuel-sipper option energized can do that in ONE tank.

I think the price is great.  Of course, you have to be careful with low hours claims, ..,

How come nobody told me that boat's got Cal's colors? Some of the best things in life are B&W.

Need to ask what the hour meter on the tach says. It's more likely that the MMDC's been replaced recently than the tach. By the look of the white plastic (speaker covers, cupholders) being not-so-white...and the wrinkles in the seats (my vinyl's still tiiiiight)....the boat's not a spring chicken.

Never remember if the Lakerats are in DFW or Houstin or what, but it'd be nice to have an Epicmariner check it out for anyone interested. The brothers I bought mine from live there, and I'm sure if somebody was really interested, maybe something could be worked out.

When my computer was replaced, my hour-meter went back to zero.  I'm honest -- so if I ever sell the boat, I'll be sure to share that there were 189 hours on the boat before the computer tanked. Not all the boats are equipped with a stand-alone hour meter.  The only one on my boat is in the Accuski module (forgive me for not remembering the technical term...it's been a while since I've talked Epics).

So, anybody who's buying a used Epic -- don't trust the hour gauge on the computer.
