That... is friggin' sweet.  Though I think I'd be satisfied with the old system. ;)

Shawn, what about four 8's in front in a single enclosure, or a split enclosure containing two 8's and a 10 or 12?

I love the idea about the trunk!!! Do they still make 15's? Be kinda cool to do a mix back there too, like two 15's inboard and two 12's outboard or two 12's and two 10's. Would be cool to look at (don't know how it'd sound, and it'd complicate the amp situation a little).

Those are good ideas, but i have four 8's on the tower already.  I was thinking of puting a couple of 10's and use them for midbass, but my wife is tired of me with this stereo thing, so i am going to have to wait for a little bit.

Well, first time out, I blow'd up the cheap Polk sub that was supposed to handle what I was throwing at it. It figures. Well, I just put a JL 10" (W3) on order that should be a good match for my pretty modest system. It is a slippery slope, pretty soon I'll be rippin out my back seat and putting in 8 x12's. Most of us will, eventually. Too much is just not enough. That little sub sounded OK, for a minute.....

The Polk Momo 6.5's sound righteous. Money well spent there.

Those polk 6.5 look the shizle man.  Do you know the mounting depth on that JL?  I'm building a box right now to replace storage compartements under the rear seat cushions.  I bought Audiobaun 10's because of their shallow mounting depth.  I'm worried cause the Audiobauns look el cheapo, and the box will have to be unscrewed and unglued to get them out.  Also got some rockford T162S componets for my tower and infinity Kappas for the boat.  The T162Ss are a work of art!!

I already have a box made that fits behind the kick panel, I don't think I'll have any issues with clearance. I'm sure specs are on the JL website if you needem. So, WTF are you doing with the back seat to put subs in there?

My first set up, i had six 10's as my rear seat firing towards the front and two 10's under the dash.  That really  sounded great with rock music.  If you can return those subs, try to get some image dynamics IDQ's.  they are shallow but still sound incredible, that's what i was using for 10's.  i wish i had some pics but my hard drive crashed and i lost them all.

I would like to see some pics of that rear seat if you have any.

bummer about your hard drive, I'm backing mine up after I finish typing here...I've never done it before.  thanks for the tip about the IDQ's

Any way, I'm replacing the formed plastic base that the rear cushions sit on with a 3/4" birch/maple enclosure with similar dimensions.  I'll get a little less than 1.5 cu. ft with a 3" port 6" long.  I'll post pics when it looks more presentable.  Right now I'm cutting fiberclass resin with acetone so that it is drawn into the wood for water proofing.  then I'll round the edges and carpet.  I haven't built a speaker enclosure in ten years so the going is slow and the results uncertain!  Fun though

Finished up the stereo projects today.  I will post some pics when i get a chance, it's pretty cool.  Also just ordered wireless remotes for the actuators, no switches.

Shawn, you need to post an MPEG or QT movie of that hatch opening up, too cool. What kind of linear actuator did you use? There is a big range in price from what I've seen, from expensive to DANG that's expensive. All that I've looked at had tons of power to open the hatch. I've never used one and don't know what type would work best or how much stroke is necessary. Also, how did you do the remote actuation? I totally don't need it, I just want to make my hatch go up and down!

Someday, I'd like to out-bling Grant, but I'm not sure if that's possible. I have a LONG way to go. He is a source of inspiration in the cool boat dept, as are you.

I keep thinking about that line in the article on your boat where the guy says "Most women find it to be a complete waste of money,"  HAH! You mean, like a closet full of shoes?

That's funny, I used a 12" stroke and i have the 4 channel remote system on order and it should be here friday or monday.  Once i get the remote installed, i will post a video and some pics.  Here is the link where i got them from.  I will also try to post a pic of the box i put in the trunk.  I didn't take any pics of the actual box (wife had camera and was out of town)  but i can find one online that is sort of the same build.

Here is kand of what the box looks like

That is awesome, I was wondering about the stroke, with 110 lbs of pressure, if you let it go all the way to full stroke it would probably tear off one of the mounts, right? I guess you just push the button until the hatch is wide open. No limit switches? it wouldn't be that hard to incorporate them. Or, to have the actuators lift the box until it pushed the lid all the way open so the speakers were sticking out. That would be truly loud and obnoxious.

Does that box fit through the hole or did you have to remove the back seat and gas tank?

Sorry I have so many questions, I am just curious how some of these things are done. Wheels are turning.....

Wheels are turning.....

Yeah Pete, I can smell it all the way over here.

To build on the table-boat idea, what if we mounted an Offshore 2.4 to Shawn's old speaker box?

I had to remove the gas tank and the back seat, not fun when you have a half a tank of gas in it, but with two people, it wasn't so bad.  The hatch lifts straight up, i removed all of the original hardware.
