That sounds cool, gotta see it work. My JL sub came in, I'll mount it up today:)

I saw a show called ShipShape boating on the DIY channel, it's usually pretty stupid but today he made a box to mount to a tuna tower out of closed cell 1/2" foam and then glassed it. It looks like a much better material to use than MDF or plywood. The stuff he used is called Divinycell foam. From what I read, you can shape the stuff with a heat gun. I'm considering making a tower box out of the stuff, it would be much lighter and a better sound insulator than plywood. It doesn't absorb moisture like MDF, it is closed cell. Here's a link in case anyone is interested and doesn't get DIY channel.

I followed Pete's lead and just purchased and installed the Alpine CDA 9831 with iPod adapter.  Plugged my iPod in and started playin the tunes.  The deck displays the albums, songs etc.  So you control the iPod via the deck.  Looking forward to the new sounds when the winter weather clears!

I love that Alpine. It does not skip! It has tons of features, a 500mhz processor to do the time correction crap which is pretty cool to play with. All kinds of stuff, you can reverse the polarity on the sub from the head, it makes a BIG difference if you need it, just a really cool head unit.

Okay, so I quickly realized on the lake that too much is never enough. This did not come as a shock to me, but it did to one other person in my life that is very close to the checkbook. No matter, a MAN has to do what a man has to do. SO:

I need more real time control over the three sets of speakers in my boat, i.e. Sub, Boat Tower. I just do.

I'm not using a cheap pot level controller like a PAC LC1, because it slightly degrades the signal and compromises the high fidelity of my otherwise pretty not so sucky system. I just can't do it. I can give anyone else who wants it explicit instruction on how to make your own level control for about three bucks. It's not what I want.

I want to drive my amps at near their highest input voltage handling capability for least noise. Most of us have long cable runs, small signals and long cable = noise, lost highs due to capacitive coupling and the result is sucky tone.

I am starting with an AudioControl Matrix, which is a six channel (3 stereo) preamp/line driver. It can boost signals to the max any amp can handle. It does not have a faceplace control panel, I am going to make a remote one and interface it with the unit. I am also going to put the RPM based volume control in there, eventually. That piece may be standalone to work with normal head signals, 4vac or less. Actually when they say 4 they really mean 2.9 in practice. They are lying, essentially.

Here is the design for the face panel, it is 25mm (1in) x 100mm (4 in) black anodized aluminum 1.5mm thick, with machined and backfilled lettering. I put ins and outs on there too, not sure if I want them there due to cabling, etc. but that can be changed. It would be much cleaner with just three knobs.

What do you guys think? Is anyone but me this anal?

Found a pic of the new hatch for the stereo, not to much detail but you get the idea.

That is really cool! Nice work.

My latest addition to my system is an IPOD shuffle. 10 hrs worth of music, and it's tiny.

Thanks for the compliments guys.  Pete, can you control your Ipod shuffle with your head unit?  I highly recomend these Audiobaun subs.  The hit mega hard for the small amount of money I paid.
