2nd Annual Southeastern Epic Roundup
« on: May 27, 2006, 16:58:01 pm »
It is time to get this thing organized. Let's get some feedback from attendees. First, who can attend?

Now that we have that settled:
2. Should it be during the week (few or no other boats on the lake) or weekend (more convenient to some)?
3. Single day event or overnight?
4. Owner only or family event?
5. Which lake?
6. When?

I will start it out as I am heading out to the lake later this afternoon and only have slower than dial up there. Slower than dialup translates into 14.4 using my cellphone. Grass grows quicker. Anyway, I can offer up Lake Hartwell. The lake is virtually empty during the week. Of course much more traffic on the weekends but definitely not like the southern part of Lanier. We can base things out of my place. I have room to bunk people overnight - not an army but those that need it. If this is to be an owner only type thing, either it needs to be a single day event or everyone has to bring absolutely everything they possibly need as my wife is the hostess with the mostest. She has a way of anticipating needs and solving crises. I outwardly ignore both while worrying big time to myself. As to the lake, there are several beautiful lakes all around us so I don't want to pretend Hartwell is the only one available. However, I am not comfoprtable pulling my boat with the vehicles I have. I will need to beg, borrow or steal a vehicle if I am to get to another lake. If a family thing, we are best until July 10. After that it gets harder to get my family all in one place.

Let's hear some feedback folks.

People don't like choices? Fine... Thursday, 7/20, at Lake Hartwell. Meet at my place at 10AM - bug out at the end of the day. Bring everyone that can come. done...

Count me in, by the way, what is the unofficial Epicmarine total boats in one place?  We need to have a goal!

I will see if I can make that work. So are you thinking a "family" thing? If we're still in the "discussing" phase of this, and are open, what about Friday 7-21. Friday works better for me since I can more easily take off from work Friday. After all, it is all about me.

I could prolly make Thursday work if everyone else prefers that.

Wreck, I spaced and forget to tell you we came up their this weekend. I cruised by your joint about 9am Sunday morning and did not see any signs of life from the water. THe water was great that early and me and my boy were just out cruising. I really just wanted to see if I could find it again. I did even though you did not have that obnoxious GT banner waving.  :)

I saw you sweet ride with your new tower, so I knew it was ur place.
If I was more organized I would have called ahead. It's all we can do to pack up enough, gather the kid's toys, and make sure I don;t forget the key to the boat. (i did that last year). We headed home today after our 2.5 year old wore out our welcome at our frineds house up there in Reed creek. We set a record with 16 time outs and more that a few smacks on the arse.

Hector, anyway you could sneak out of work early on a Friday? The lake is so much busier on weekends.

Les, I didn't get to the lake until Sunday afternoon. It was like a zoo out there. Neighbor and I took the Waverunners to the I-85 bridge and back. I was worn out. It was what I imagine the southern part of Lanier is like from the way people have described it - an ocean full of huge cruisers and a zillion jetskis going every which way. On top of that, eveyone behaved like they only get on the water once a year and think everyone else needs to get the hell out of their way. The entire shoreline was torn up - muddy water for 50-75 ft from shore. The end of Payne's Creek was looking sad. Now for the really interesting part. There was what I assume to be to be a Malibu 247 cruising up and down PC. I am not that good at identifying boats but it was the size of an aircraft carrier, it had the driver and maybe 47 kids on it and the wakeboard tower was installed backwards. He was creating havoc to the shoreline, other boats and the docks. It hardly looked (or sounded) as if he had the engine at much more than idle but he was sending 2-3 ft waves crashing along the shore. Much to my delight (yeah, right) he started up again Monday morning about 8AM and kept going until 8PM. The only time he stopped was for about an hour midday. I assume he went and sucked the remaining gas out of the Marina. I was oh so thrilled to notice that he pulled in a slip at the end of the cove at the end of the day. Yep, it appears I have him as a neighbor - lucky me. He stayed through Tuesday afternoon and single handledly tore up the shoreline again. I feel like reporting him to Al Gore. After he left, things returned to normal. Hardly a boat on the lake and glassy water again - very peaceful.

BTW, the tower was the work of Breakaway - it was on the boat last year!  As to whether the RoundUp is a family deal or just the members and way too much beer is up to you guys. I really don't care. Monday thru Thursday after mid-July I will be at the lake by myself (family has other commitments) but they will generally be there Fridays thru Sunday. If it is a guy thing, they will probably hang with one of the neighbors whereas if it is a family thing, the neighbors (at least the kids) will probably hang around with us.

Someone from here was saying that last year's gathering of 4 boats was the largest gathering of Epics in one place. I think we could double that this year with the new boats in the area. The lake is on the Ga/SC border along I-85.

Obnoxious GT banner??? Did you think I would let that one go? Well... maybe you're right. Even DNR stopped by last year and was less than enthusiastic. I moaned about how close boats get to the dock and the guytheorized it was because of the banner! He suggested I get a Georgia or Auburn banner. Right, like I chose to put the only GT banner in an ocean of Georgia banners because it was on sale at the local pawn shop. I prefer boats smashing through my dock-

Obnoxious GT banner - get used to it!

Well, being a new epic owner my vote might not count as much but I can't do the week day thing now either.  It would have to be a weekend event for me to make it...Being new to the boating thing my family(friends) would have a cow if i didn't bring them along... but if you guys keep it on the thursday then I won't know till that week if I can make it... Of course I am driving from Nashville so it will be an overnight thing for me... but a hotel is fine with me... haha- life is good
Boating is more then a passion- is a lifestyle.

Bummer, my sister just called to remind me of the family reunion in Chicago that weekend.  I told her sorry, got a big boating weekend planned, it did'nt fly at all.  looks like I am going to Chicago.  Thursday is still good for me but it sounds like we would get a bigger crowd for the weekend.  Man I hate to miss the second roundup as well!

I'm good almost any time given some notice. Weekends are better than weekdays, but I could probably do either.

I am waiting to learn my wife's July schedule before trying to pick the actual day. This summer is harder to predict with her working again. I prefer weekdays due to the lack of other boaters but am open to whatever works for the majority. Hartwell is way down this year. I had to move my dock out over the weekend - bummer.

Wreck, you are the cheerleader and big toe of the SE Epic crew. Don't get too pissed off, schedule the thing for a weekend at your convenience, and whoever shows will show. You might see a West Coast epic dude or two, given some notice......
