Hector, anyway you could sneak out of work early on a Friday? The lake is so much busier on weekends.
Les, I didn't get to the lake until Sunday afternoon. It was like a zoo out there. Neighbor and I took the Waverunners to the I-85 bridge and back. I was worn out. It was what I imagine the southern part of Lanier is like from the way people have described it - an ocean full of huge cruisers and a zillion jetskis going every which way. On top of that, eveyone behaved like they only get on the water once a year and think everyone else needs to get the hell out of their way. The entire shoreline was torn up - muddy water for 50-75 ft from shore. The end of Payne's Creek was looking sad. Now for the really interesting part. There was what I assume to be to be a Malibu 247 cruising up and down PC. I am not that good at identifying boats but it was the size of an aircraft carrier, it had the driver and maybe 47 kids on it and the wakeboard tower was installed backwards. He was creating havoc to the shoreline, other boats and the docks. It hardly looked (or sounded) as if he had the engine at much more than idle but he was sending 2-3 ft waves crashing along the shore. Much to my delight (yeah, right) he started up again Monday morning about 8AM and kept going until 8PM. The only time he stopped was for about an hour midday. I assume he went and sucked the remaining gas out of the Marina. I was oh so thrilled to notice that he pulled in a slip at the end of the cove at the end of the day. Yep, it appears I have him as a neighbor - lucky me. He stayed through Tuesday afternoon and single handledly tore up the shoreline again. I feel like reporting him to Al Gore. After he left, things returned to normal. Hardly a boat on the lake and glassy water again - very peaceful.
BTW, the tower was the work of Breakaway - it was on the boat last year! As to whether the RoundUp is a family deal or just the members and way too much beer is up to you guys. I really don't care. Monday thru Thursday after mid-July I will be at the lake by myself (family has other commitments) but they will generally be there Fridays thru Sunday. If it is a guy thing, they will probably hang with one of the neighbors whereas if it is a family thing, the neighbors (at least the kids) will probably hang around with us.
Someone from here was saying that last year's gathering of 4 boats was the largest gathering of Epics in one place. I think we could double that this year with the new boats in the area. The lake is on the Ga/SC border along I-85.
